Oklahoma is, and we can’t emphasize this enough, not Louisiana. So it’s always irked us just a little that our state became part of these United States in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803. The U.S. didn’t even get all of Louisiana in the $15 million deal, but it did get the rights to obtain the lands that would become six entire states (including Oklahoma) and pieces of what would become another eight states.
